Development for the purifying technology of the glasses of waste solar photovoltaic module.

Since the rise of environmental awareness, people try to develop environmentally friendly and renewable power generation technologies to replace the high-polluting and high risk ones, such as coal-fired, thermal, nuclear and so on. The solar cell, which converts the energy of light directly into electricity by the photovoltaic effect, is a good choice. The usage of solar panel is getting higher and higher. However, the lifespan of a modern solar panel is around 20 ~ 25 years. It is expected that more than 3,000 tons of waste solar panel are generated in 2031 in Taiwan, and the amounts will continue to increase. Waste solar panels are generally disposed of in landfills. The development of a new solution that involves the recycling and recovery of waste solar panels is important. Glass is used in solar panel as layer of protection against the elements and its weight ratio is about 70%. It is important to recycle glass and further increasing its reuse value in treating solar panel. Therefore, this work developed a method for purifying and re-using glasses from waste solar panels. A low power consumption and high efficiency technique is used to separate the organic materials from glass, and the glass is further purified to meet the raw material specification of the ultra clear glass. The high purity glass is used to produce ultra clear glass and the performance of product is tested. A pilot system with a batch handling capacity of 1 kilograms of waste solar panel is established and 100 kilograms of waste solar panels are treated to evaluate the feasibility of glass recycling.
